THE ART OF PUBLIC SPEAKING
HERE WE ARE AGAIN, DI SINI KITA BERSAMA LAGI...
Please allow me to use our second language to communicate with you this morning...
What I would like to share with you here today is THE ART OF PUBLIC SPEAKING. I happened to attend a half-a-day workshop on Public Speaking conducted by one of the former presidents of Toastmasters International, Mr Gavin Blakey from Australia.
It's not difficult to speak in front of many other people. However you have to fulfill a few basic requirements:
1. You must know your audience; the target group you are speaking to
2. You must do your homework which is studying your literature and preparing for the speech. Even a very good speaker has to prepare his speech and practise it so that it is delivered smoothly.
3. You must have self- confidence. Self-confidence is built through two ways -understand your subject matter well; learn it inside out and have a good self-projection, dress to impress and be comfortable with what you wear (for offline conferences).
To the speakers in SST and the speakers-to-be, good luck! But before you speak, I have other peices of advice for you...
Before you deliver your speech(es), you must make sure that you fulfill three things:
1. TELL THEM 2. TELL THEM 3. TELL THEM

ONE: Tell them what you want to tell them (Introduction)
TWO: Tell them what you are telling them (Body/ Content)
THREE: Tell them what you have told them (Conclusion)
You speech must have this structure (just like your essays, if you write them) and all the three parts must be well organized. Your purpose in delivering a speech is to drive home a message and to impress - to deliver a real speech that stays even when you have left!. In order to do so you must make sure that you are well prepared. Once you are prepared, your self-confidence comes naturally. This is because you have mastered your subject matter.
Now GOOD LUCK at SST conferences!
See you again soon!
